A flash-length story in the Harold Stumbo series. Harold was an illegal horse race bookie, and he's trying to stay retired and out of jail. He lives with his autistic wife on Roanoke Island, North Carolina. "Homesick" was published by Every Day Fiction on 10/10/15. The story is about 1000 words long, so it should only take you five minutes or so, if you’d like to read it. Leave a comment and a rating. Thanks so much!

  1. So far "Homesick" is not getting favorable comments in personal rejection letters, except than for the writing. It's a pretty soft, subtle story.

  2. Funny how tastes differ. I didn't change anything as a result of the rejection comments.

  3. Every 'Day Fiction's server crashed, and all 52-some of the star ratings of the story were lost. The average of the votes was 4.1 out of 5, which is pretty high. With the new system the voting begins all over again, though it won't ever reflect the initial momentum and responses.
